Teenage Trainers

Teenage Trainers

Nelson

In May, Nelson’s Day Clubs met with a group of teenagers and their dogs from the ARK rehabilitative training programme.

The teens, who had spent the prior eight weeks under supervision getting their dogs ready for adoption, showed off the skills and tricks they’d taught their charges and shared what it was like to take care of an animal.

In return, Club members made dog-shaped biscuits to raise funds to support the ARK programme.

ARK community coordinator, Karen Howieson, says: “Bringing young people together with animals is an ideal way to help them to understand compassion, empathy and respect – for animals, themselves and for others.”
